WOI is a Washington, DC-based social-impact training, consulting and communications company formed in 2014 by two DC residents to give back to our community.  We offer free technical and non-technical workforce development workshops and entrepreneurship building skills to underserved members of our community, including youth, seniors, veterans and returning citizens who are unemployed or underemployed.    WOI also offers expanded services, but arming people with the necessary skills to advance their careers or start their own businesses remains our primary focus.  As such, we support the District’s goals to increase the employment rate of its citizens, and align our goals with the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

One of our signature programs is the WOI- Entrepreneurship Academy (TM), a robust nine-week program positioning graduates with key elements for business success, including a written strategic business plan, with financial, operating human resource and marketing plans, a basic business license, business bank account and membership in a business advocacy organization. Participants go on excursions to learn where the small business resources are in our City, lunch and learn with local luminaries and mentors, and pitch their business ideas internally and learning how to pitch to an external audience.  Finally, class members participate in an exercise to try to solve a local community problem and make a recommendation to the Mayor's office. The program is currently available through the Department of Employment Services (DOES) and will be offered to companies and the general public on a fee basis beginning this fall.
